A Great Way to Build Community
Connecting with other bloggers through the blogs they write not only inspires me, but makes me feel part of a community filled with interesting people. A rather cool Canadian couple nominated me today for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award, which is a very clever way of creating community amongst bloggers. Make sure you check out their lovely blog: busanbyday.wordpress.com
The rules of accepting the Very Inspiring Blogger Award are:
- Display the Award Certificate on your website.
- Announce your win with a post and link to whoever presented you with the award.
- Present 15 awards to deserving bloggers.
- Drop them a comment to tip them off after you have linked them in the post.
- Post 7 interesting things about yourself.
While thinking about ‘interesting things about myself’, I came to the conclusion that, although I often feel lost and awkward in social situations, it is the connections I make with people that distil random moments into memorable experiences.
7 (hopefully) Interesting things about me:
- Despite being introverted, I studied Drama at university and taught Dramatic Arts for many years.
- I love to travel consciously, spending enough time in one place to scratch a little bit more than just the surface.
- Yin Yoga is my favourite type of yoga to practise.
- I would rather spend my time curled up with a book, than socializing.
- I love spending time outside at sunrise and sunset.
- It is when I am walking that I feel at peace with myself and my surroundings.
- I love being married and consider my husband my best friend.
I read many blogs and trying to choose only 15 was quite a challenge. The following blogs are worth a visit as they all have something unique and inspiring to offer:
- amandagreenyoga.com
- alinasighete.wordpress.com
- howdoyousaytacoinspanish.wordpress.com
- healingpilgrim.com
- adventureincroatia.wordpress.com
- les3elephants.wordpress.com
- retireediary.wordpress.com
- arjungabriel.wordpress.com
- cookiecrumbstoliveby.wordpress.com
- risaroe.wordpress.com
- jollyjunketeer.com
- beyondlisbon.wordpress.com
- janalinesworldjourney.com
- garlicandorgasms.com
- vosperdruiter.wordpress.com
Thanks for the award! I have this one problem- I do not have 15 regular readers yet…
No need – simply award one person whose blog you enjoy reading, if you want to. It really is just a fun way of recognising people for their efforts in blogging and a way of making a connection with others.

Thank you very much:) I see some familiar names in the list and the association is flattering, now the curiosity will lead me into exploring the sites of the other “colleagues” 🙂
Isn’t this a cool way of discovering other blogs? Your photographs are absolutely breathtaking – the world seems much ‘prettier’ through your lens.
Congratulations on your much deserved award and thank you for the nomination. I, too, appreciate all the cool people and writing in this very global blogger community. cheers!
Thank you Amanda, and it is only a pleasure. I am in awe of all the wonderful people I get to ‘meet’ while blogging. Following the adventures of others are certainly enriching my life in ways I’ve never expected.
thank you for reading our Blog and this mentioning Our Adventure in Croatia in your blog, most generous. Will come back to read more of your adventures.. 🙂
I am very grateful that I have stumbled upon your blog. Croatia now has a spot on my bucket list, where before it hasn’t even featured. You are constantly reminding me of the beauty that is to be found in this world. Thank you for that.
we are happy to have placed a little corner of the Mediterranean onto your Bucket List. More travelling ahead!
Wow! Thanks for including my blog, Jolandi! What a nice surprise and a nice way of building community, as you say…as well as keeping me on my toes! Ha! 🙂
There is a ‘freshness’ about your blog that I really like, and your enthusiasm is tangible. Love it.
🙂
Congratulations on getting nominated, you deserve it!! Thank you for the compliment of nominating me for this award!!
Thanks Janaline, and it is only a pleasure. I like the way your blog bubbles with enthusiasm. Reading it reminds me of the many reasons it is great to be alive and able to explore this beautiful planet we live on.
You are so sweet Jolandi, to re-award me the badge of inspiring blogger! It’s my first time being re-awarded, so I plead ignorance of the rules: Do I need to re-post or is a big THANK YOU the way to go? Thanks so much for being a regular visitor to my blog. Right back at you 😉
I think a big Thank You is more than sufficient – and the pleasure is all mine. I really enjoy reading your blog, as I admire the way you candidly speak about your challenges. It is truly inspiring. I am grateful we met up in the ‘blogosphere’.
Congrats on your nomination..!! And thanks for thinking of me..!! I love your blog and would have nominated it myself if I had received the recognition first 🙂
Ah, thank you – and it is only a pleasure. I absolutely love experiencing Mexico through your eyes.
Thank you very much for the nomination Jolandi. I have been a little lazy with completing my duty… Actually, I have been nominated for the Liebster award too, which makes a lot of flattering honors, and a lot of unexpected work as well ;). So, finally, I am on it, not quite completed my related post, but I can already tell you that I am happy to nominate you in return for this Liebster award. I’ll send you the mail soon (when I’ll have chosen the 25 other blogs I have to nominate in total for these two awards!). Cheers.
Thank you Benjamin, it is much appreciated.
Hi, I have nominated you for a Liebster award: http://les3elephants.wordpress.com/blog-awards/
“I came to the conclusion that, although I often feel lost and awkward in social situations, it is the connections I make with people that distil random moments into memorable experiences.” – That just about sums me up, too 😉 I may have you plagiarise you shamelessly. And often 😉
It is lovely to meet a kindred spirit. 🙂
