Street Art in Rio
“It can be said that it is a movement, most definitely an art expression, but surely, even more than this… Perhaps, an art form in its own right. One thing is certain – street art has become an inevitable integral element of contemporary art. Maybe, then, the question before us is not What street art is, but rather Why has it come to be, and more importantly – where can it go from here?”

Thanks, Terri. Yes, the street art in Rio is excellent. I am amazed at how much it lightens up drab places, especially. I also think it is good that the international trend towards street art is a great way of not just taking art out of galleries, but making it more accessible to people who would normally not frequent galleries.
Very fun. Reminds me of an incredible street art tour we did in Bogota last winter. I have always enjoyed photos of street art, but walking amid all that brilliance with one of the street artists himself explaining things about what we were seeing was an amazing experience.
What a special experience that must have been. I wish I could have spoken to some of the street artists whose work I so enjoyed in Rio! I must admit that I prefer art to be out in the open, where one can enjoy it free from the restrictions of an art gallery or museum. So yes, I’m with you on this one. I am so glad that there is a huge global trend towards officially incorporating street art into the urban environment.
